Stone Soup Diving

Brie Levitan · See you at DEMA, Nov 3 to 6

I'm a rEvo and cave diver who tinkers, tests and goes looking for adventure.

I've spent my career testing systems, showing them off, training users and writing the manual. I tested and demoed project management software for buyers like NASA and Umbra. At the DOJ I wrote the internal guides for, and supported, litigation applications including Concordance, Summation, CaseMap/TimeMap, Sanction and TrialDirector, and I worked on the Enron Task Force supporting the FBI. Most recently I ran technology projects from beginning to end at two AmLaw 100 firms. Now I'm ready to bring all of it to my next chapter in the dive community, wherever it fits best.

The Stone Soup idea

Everybody brings something to the pot.

In the old story, a traveler starts a soup with nothing but a stone, and the whole village adds what they have. That's my dream for Stone Soup Diving.

Experienced divers have good gear sitting in their garages. Meanwhile, dive guides, divemasters and conservation divers around the world are doing real work with worn-out equipment. I want to get that retired gear serviced and back in the water with them.

Everybody brings something. My crew, rebreathers and all.
  1. 01 / COLLECTRetired gear from experienced divers who've upgraded or moved on.
  2. 02 / SERVICEEvery piece inspected and serviced properly before it goes anywhere.
  3. 03 / EQUIPInto the hands of local divers around the world who need it.

The goal

Getting local divers the equipment they need to become Ocean Ambassadors™.

Dive guides, divemasters and conservation divers in places where good gear is hard to come by get serviced equipment from experienced divers. With gear they can count on, they can protect their own reefs and wrecks and show their communities why it matters.

About me

Underwater, I'm the SlothDiver.

The sloth is my spirit animal, and I dive. So, SlothDiver. It fits better than you'd think. On a rebreather there are no bubbles and no rush, so I can hang off a wreck for ages and find the tiny things everyone else swims right past.

On land I'm Brie, a nerd who takes things apart to see how they work. Underwater I just take my time.

SHARKS

Anything with sharks. I'll be the last one back on the boat.

A blue, black and orange nudibranch on the reef

MACRO

Nudibranchs, shrimp, toadfish. The smaller it is, the happier I am.

LIONFISH

I hunt them, then I eat them. Get my ceviche recipe.

RUSTY WRECKS

The rustier the better, especially once they've turned into reefs.
